commissioning process
The initial client discussion will normally take place in the intended environment for the piece. The aim of the meeting is to take the initial steps in defining the client's needs and preferences . This will result in a functional specification and may include words and images describing the desired overall look or feel of the piece. The conversation may revolve around other pieces of furniture, pieces in the portfolio, or indeed any other object which may help to identify the client's likes and dislikes in terms of style, form and materials. It is usual at this stage to establish an approximate budget or range of budgets for the piece.
The initial brief is then converted into design concepts which usually take the form of freehand sketches combined with outline computer models. These initial designs augmented by material samples, are discussed with the client in order to focus on the most appropriate concept.
Once the main concept has been agreed the next stage is to crystallise the finished design which will normlly take the form of a fully rendered perspective computer model from which appropriate views can be generated to show all relevant design detail. There will also be a full written description of the project with a firm cost estimate.
Payment of the deposit will book a slot in the production schedule, typically with the balance payable on delivery.
